The Perils of Penelope Pitstop!

I love this sketch. Penelope was done by Agnes Garbowska in Chicago this year. Agnes's art has always caught my eye at different cons and I was glad to finally get her to do something for HB Town. She also did a pencil sketch for me which is currently up at Sketches from an Unknown Restaurant. Here in HB Town Agnes lives on Speedbuggy drive with most of the other Canadian artists! I do find it ironic that I went all the way to Chicago to get a sketch from Agnes when I see her at all the Toronto shows as well!

Quick Draw McGraw Comic

Not a sketch but this is the cover of a Quick Draw McGraw comic that I picked up in Chicago a few weeks ago. I just love this cover as it is a great example of one that would not get produced today. The book was produced by Charlton Comics in March of 1971. The cover was drawn by Ray Dirgo. I wasn't able to find much more then a little generic info on Ray Dirgo on the Internet but this cover is easily one of my favorites!

Touche Turtle

This latest sketch is of the often forgotten Touche Turtle as done by Phil Hester. Phil is a very well known comic book artist and writer. Currently he writes The Darkness for Top Cow comics as well as many of his own creations such as The Atheist and Firebreather. Phil has drawn pretty much every big name character from both DC and Marvel, including the revival of Green Arrow with writer Kevin Smith. I was not able to find a website for Phil anywhere, but he will always have a home here in HB Town on Speed Buggy Dr.
Update - Phil Hester can be found on the web at ShockTrauma Studios and also has a myspace page for his amazing Firebreather book here.

Heads Up Shaggy!

Well Chicago is over and I was able to add a few sketches to my books. Here is the first of my new Hanna-Barbera sketches. This sketch of Shaggy was done by Jay Brant of Heads Up Studios. I figure the name of the studio combined with the actual sketch explains quite a bit. Over the next few days I will post a few of Jay's other HB characters. Jay can be found on his website. Here in HB Town, Jay can be found on Jellystone Way.
